World War II could not have been won without the bombers of the U.S. Eighth Air Force,

which pummeled Germany by day while the British bombed at night.

Masters of the Air tells the story of the American bomber boys who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep before Allied soldiers stepped on German soil. But the price of success was high: the Eighth lost more men in the war that the U.S. Marine Corps. The 100th Bombardment Group was viewed as a “jinxed” unit due to high losses early in the war.

The Masters of the Air mini-series is based on the book Masters of the Air by Donald L. Miller, focusing on the “Bloody Hundredth” – the 100th Bombardment Group. This informational spotlight guide provides resources for additional information on the Eighth Air Force in general, and the 100th Bombardment Group in particular, including items from the Air University Library collections and online resources freely available on the internet.

A exclusive screening of the debut episode of Masters of the Air is scheduled to take place at ACSC's Wood Auditorium in building 1402 at 1230 on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The TV Series

From Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman, the creators of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, Masters of the Air follows the daring exploits of airmen in the 100th Bomb Group during World War II.

Series premieres on January 26.
