Citing Resources: Software Applications

These citation generators require installation of software onto your computer.  Some are totally free, others require payment after a certain level of usage.  Most of these programs store your data to output citations as footnotes or endnotes used to generate bibliographies.  You should always check to ensure the citation contains all the elements called for by the style guide.

Software for Generating Citations

  1. Citavi Free
    1. Citavi Free is the starter edition and may be used for projects containing up to 100 references.
  2. RefWorks

  3. Zotero
    1. Zotero is a free program that helps to collect, organize, and share research sources.  It works as an extension to Firefox, but is also available as a standalone program for use with other browsers. Learn more about setting up Zotero.
